Rique Pottenger was born September 16, 1949 in Tucson, Arizona at 6:18am. He has a B.Sc. in Math and Astronomy from the University of Arizona and an M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA. Though never formally trained in astrology, he absorbed quite a bit of it over the years, as he is the eldest son of Ziporah Dobyns and Maritha Pottenger is his sister. Rique had intended to become a mathematician until he discovered computer programming, and he has now been a programmer for more than 30 years. He has written programs for machines from 8 to 32 bits, running under many different operating systems.

From 1984 to 2004, Rique was employed at Astro Computing Services and ACS Publications where he programmed some of the company's most popular interpreted reports. After the death of founder Neil F. Michelsen in 1990, Rique became responsible for maintaining and improvins Astro's production programs. This included his taking the major role in implementing Michelsen's wishes to switch from main frame computers to a modern and faster Windows based PC network. After designing and programming the new system, and recommending new equipment. Rique then trained the staff in how to use the new system. Later Rique programmed the company's Electronic Astrologer software series. He also assumed responsibility for maintaining and improving the ACS Atlas database.

Now semi-retired, Rique continues to do astrological programming for a small list of clients. He lives in Opelika, Alabama with his beloved wife, Zowie Warton, and their two cats. In their spare time they work at home-improvement projects (both have lots of Virgo), play computer games on their home network, and do puzzles together.
