Women’s Revolution

Thomas Canfield

The July 7 entry of Uranus into Gemini is of particular interest because of the feminine elements at the time of the ingress. First, Venus is conjunct Uranus in Gemini. Venus is the ruler of Taurus, where Uranus spent the last seven years, and the ruler of Libra, which is trine Gemini. On the other side of the chart, the Moon is in opposition to Uranus and Venus. It reminds me of 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down on November 9. Venus and Uranus were conjunct at the beginning of Capricorn, and squaring the Moon in Aries. The feminist leader, Gloria Steinem, claimed that the fall of the Berlin Wall was a “Women’s revolution, because everybody went shopping, and then they all went home.” (Historical Node: On April 19, 1775, Uranus was at zero Gemini and in a wide conjunction to Venus at 24 Taurus on the day when the Minutemen fired “the shot heard ‘round the world.” Jupiter was also conjunct Venus at 21 Taurus, marking the powerful significance of the event.)

The Moon in Sagittarius is at the beginning of a circuit of power going around the upper half of the chart.  The Moon is sextile Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto is sextile Saturn and Neptune in Aries.  Saturn and Neptune are sextile Uranus and Venus in Gemini. It is a steady flow of energy, suggesting a smooth change with feminist overtones. In the bottom half of the chart, there are other feminine elements. Jupiter in Cancer is trine the Part of Fortune and Vesta, the asteroid of hearth and home. Mercury in Leo is squaring the Part of Fortune and Vesta. Mars in Virgo is sextile the Part of Fortune and Vesta.  The Sun at 15 Cancer is squaring Ceres in Aries, sexi-sextile the Gemini Ascendant, sextile Mars and the South Node, and trine Juno, asteroid of marriage and politics. Even behind the scenes there may be feminist action at work.

The changes taking place with this entry may be related to the economy. At the top of the chart is Pallas conjunct the Midheaven. Pallas is the asteroid of wisdom, which demands that people listen to those who really know what is going on. Pallas is sextile Eris and Chiron, which have been conjunct in Aries for the past few years. When there is confusion about medical matters and who is a medical authority, Pallas insists that we look at the diplomas on the wall rather than rely on conspiracy theories. Cutting Medicaid and programs meant to save people is not the best thing for the economy or the world. We may need some of those people who could be dying.

Vesta is squaring Pluto, and that could bring out callous voices like that of Joni Ernest who remind us, “We are all going to die.” That might be a nice slogan for Pluto, but Vesta might like a say in the matter over who is going to die and when. Vesta squaring Mercury might inspire more philosophical arguments on the nature of life and death, and whether big government should play a part in it. Yet, with Jupiter trine Vesta, the overwhelming support may be for family values rather than some official deciding who should get the Medicaid and who should not.

The Sun, Juno, and North Node are forming a Grand Trine in Water. Arguments may be more emotional than rational. The sextiles in the upper part of the chart are mainly between Air and Fire signs. In the bottom half of the chart, Water sextiles and trines are prominent. Mars in Virgo is the only representative of Earth, and that is  sextile to Jupiter and the Sun in Cancer, as well as Vesta and Juno in Scorpio. Mars is in a wide square to the Moon in Sagittarius. Mars in Virgo may see an increase in craftsmanship, and a demand for more efficiency.

Where does Uranus go from here? The ingress of Uranus is greeted by Venus, and we may see more pretty talking heads in the media. However, the opposition from the Moon may spark a feeling that women’s issues are not being addressed.  Arguments over family spending, especially with prices going up, may bring questioning over sudden changes. Pluto is trine Uranus and Venus, and there may be more incidents of people power and public awakening towards the issues. The 90 million people who did not vote in the last election may wake up for find they have been turned into Rip Van Winkle.

Saturn and Neptune sextile Uranus and Venus may be facing some hard realities. When Saturn and Neptune were in Pisces, it was easy to indulge in pleasant fantasies. Once they moved into Aries, hard realities came in. Saturn and Neptune were squared by Jupiter in Cancer, and then the reality of problems, especially those facing families, wiped away the illusions. The Sun moved into Cancer and added to the square. After so many years sailing through Pisces in a fog, Saturn and Neptune are facing a volcanic eruption in Aries, with squares from Cancer. The Moon in Sagittarius may provide some healing comfort and pleasant advice. Uranus and Venus in Gemini may bring some thought-provoking images. The Ascendant at 15 Gemini is sextile Ceres in the Eleventh House. Messages may be put forward that people may finally listen to. Pallas trine the Ascendant may bring the wisdom that people are waiting to hear. Uranus and Venus are in the Twelfth House, and their roles may be kept secret for a while. The Moon in Sagittarius may seem to be a more dramatic appearance in the role of feminist politics.

Keep in mind that Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto will be going retrograde during the last quarter of the year. Pluto will be going direct in October, and Saturn will be going direct at the end of November. Jupiter will be going retrograde in November.  It may be nostalgia, when people look back on a day when a person could buy more than one doll and one crayon for Christmas.  There may be longing for the good old days before there were tariffs. People may start asking, “Did we really have progress when our advances are moving backwards?”
