New Money versus Old Money

Thomas Canfield

For the Scorpio Full Moon, we may be seeing a struggle between New Money and Old Money. The New Money is represented by Elon Musk and the technocratic billionaires who made their fortunes thanks to the technology boom.  The Old Money stands for the old-time billionaire fortunes such as the Fords, the Rockefellers, and even George Soros. The dichotomy is clear in the positioning of the Sun-Moon axis.  The Sun is conjunct the Midheaven and Uranus in Taurus. The Moon is conjunct the Fourth House Cusp and Juno, the asteroid of marriage and political power. In the olden days, people got money and political power mainly through marriage.  Now money is gotten through internet connections and knowing the right people.

Just because the Old Money is at the bottom of the chart does not mean they are without resources. The Moon and Juno in Scorpio are trine Ceres and Saturn in Pisces. Saturn and Ceres together can represent agricultural capitalism, possibly going all the way back to the plantation society. They could stand for the oldest of the old money, and conservative doctrines completely rigid and ossified. If Ronald Reagan stood for “Voodoo Economics”, these Old Money people could have “Necromancer Economics”, representing an old-time system that endows ivy league schools, grand opera, and a “good old boys” system of doing business.

In contrast, the Sun-Uranus combination has made inroads into the traditional power structures with Bitcoin, on-line universities, and virtual meetings and performances. Billionaires will be fighting over different turf wars, but it all comes down to the same old financing.  Adding to the tension will be Pallas in Aquarius, which will be squaring the Sun-Moon axis.  The Part of Fortune will also be squaring the Uranus- Juno opposition. Fast spending and political control will be major arguments in the month coming.

There may be side dramas and power struggles, especially in the area of health care. Pluto in the Sixth House may bring worries of a medical crisis and whether it can be handled. Pluto is sextile Neptune and Venus in Aries.  Both are in Pluto’s own Eighth House, offering some comfort to Pluto. However, Mercury in Taurus is squaring Pluto. There may be worries over health care costs, and legal wrangling over healthcare services.  Mercury is in opposition to Vesta, and families may be feeling the brunt of medical problems if there are any major outbreaks. At this point, a pandemic may seem like an anticlimax compared to the financial wrangling.

Chiron and Eris in Aries are sextile Jupiter in Gemini. All three are quincunx the Moon and Juno. There may be a major campaign to shake-up Old Money, such as ruining traditionally secure areas of investing like government bonds. Even the Gold market, supposedly a safe investment in hard times, may get shaken up. The Old Money families may find that their traditional areas of investing will be in upheaval. The last of the Koch Brothers is supporting a law suit which may help overturn the Trump tariffs. The argument is that under the Constitution, only Congress can create tariffs, and the President does not have the right to create tariffs by executive action.

With Mars in the Twelfth House, hidden money resources may be brought into play. Mars in the house of secret institutions is trine Venus in the house of hidden matters. It is possible that Swiss bank accounts or CIA funding may be brought into play. Mars is squaring Vesta, and old family deposits may be revealed and exposed to auditing.  There could be hidden Bitcoin investors and other cyber currency supporters who will be revealed. Yet, no matter what treasures are dug up, events in June may be causing the grounds to shift.

Saturn will be moving into Aries on Memorial Day. There may be some protests from upset veterans. In early June, Jupiter will be going into Cancer, and squaring Neptune and Saturn in Aries. Family wealth, which was once thought to be based on bedrock, may be in for a shaking, especially if a predicted recession takes place. Uranus will be moving into Gemini and trine Pluto in Aquarius. Talk of revolution and blowing away the established order will be in the wind. It may be a scenario like “Gone with the Wind”, as the antebellum fantasies of a good life are blown away. Eris and Chiron will be approaching a conjunction and the rights that have been suppressed, like the rights of women to control their own bodies, will be coming back again. The Scorpio Moon, Juno, and planets in the Eighth House may be forming cabals and secret connections.

There may be so many activities going on behind the scenes, if you think you know what is going on, you really don’t. Watch out for threats against the Federal Reserve System, which was formed to regulate the banks without government control. Any attempt to create a financial dictatorship by ousting the Chairman could lead to a financial collapse. Keep in mind that the cash you carry in your pocket is marked as a “Federal Reserve Note”, and if Federal Reserve banks threaten to close down in protest, it could affect everything to the dollar bills you carry. With the Node Axis between the Second and Eighth Houses, people may be arguing over the facts and fancies of what money really is, and whether it should be backed by the Federal Reserve, or some fanciful cyber currency.
