In 1995, Michael Moore directed a political comedy called “Canadian Bacon.” It featured Alan Alda as an American President who tried to cover up problems by fomenting a war with Canada. However, a scheming billionaire interfered with plans and nearly started a real world war. The world was saved by the actions of John Candy and his friends in law enforcement along the Canadian border. The film did not do too well, partly because John Candy died shortly before its release, and the public thought the plot about a war with Canada to be too implausible.
Thirty years later, it seems like we are in a remake of “Canadian Bacon” with threats against Canada being made by an American President, who needs to cover up mistakes that he and a billionaire are making. Will his actions start a World War? There are some interesting elements in the Libra Full Moon chart which suggest a war, but it could be a different kind of war. Mars is the most elevated planet in the chart, but Mars is still in Cancer, and that usually indicates a weakened position. However, Mars is playing a very important part in the chart with its aspects to other planets.
Mars is trine a stellium in the Fifth House, with Venus, Saturn, the North Node, Mercury, and Neptune Since Neptune has just gone into Aries, it is an out-of-sign trine, and not considered to be as effective. Ceres is in the Fifth House, but it is nine degrees away from the trine with Mars. However, some people do use ten degree orbs between planets, and it might be considered part of the Fifth House stellium. The Fifth House is ruled by Leo, and is the house of creativity, artistic work, child birth, and entertainment. With Mars trine the planets in the Fifth House, the prospects for war may be more entertaining than frightful. With Mars sextile Uranus in the Seventh House, the war could be fought over Cable TV or Internet sites. It may be a war of jokes, satire, and lots of international humor.
As this is being written, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has just been insulted in Canada with the Canadians putting down a tiny red carpet for him. This hearkens back to Donald Trump’s insults of “Little Marco.” It is funny that the Canadians would be using Trump’s own insults against Rubio. At the same time, President Trump claimed he “invaded” California to turn on the water. Since no Federal troops were used, one could hardly call it an invasion. This may represent the kind of delusional war we can expect between the United States and Canada.
Juno, the asteroid of marriage and politics, is just entering Sagittarius and trine Neptune as it enters Aries. A war of illusions may be best for political gain. Right in this middle of this Fire trine, Pluto is opposing the Midheaven. Though there may be a “phony war” going on, there may be an undercurrent of losses caused by trade wars and cutting agreements. Both the United States and Canada could end up losing money as if it was a real war. Pluto is squaring the Part of Fortune, and an economic decline could come about. It may be the first war that was not profitable for anyone.
Adding to more Mars issues, Mars is squaring the Moon in the Twelfth House and the Sun, Chiron, and Eris in the Sixth House. Sun conjunct Eris can lead to inflamed egotism and warmongering. However, with Mars squaring Eris and the Moon in opposition, the warmongering element may not be so serious. There could be a lot of hyperbolic patriotism, with satirical warriors claiming they want to occupy Canada. There might be more parades than attacks. One thing to watch out for is a lack of wisdom that could ruffle feelings and lead to resentment later on. Chiron opposing the Moon might bring about a future lack of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in regard to sharing intelligence. Mars squaring Chiron could see incompetent war planning and dubious tactics being described. What some people might think of as comedy could be incompetence.
Mars ruling the Scorpio Ascendant and the Sixth House cusp may still get a lot of attention. There used to be a saying in the Peace movement, “What if they gave a war and nobody showed up?” In this case, it could be “What if they gave a war and everyone stayed home to watch it on TV?” Uranus is not only sextile Mars, it is also sextile the stellium in the Fifth House. Mars and Uranus aspecting Ceres might bring a revival of the old song, “I didn’t raise my boy to be a soldier.” Mars and Uranus aspecting Venus-Saturn may see a lack of action, and a lackadaisical attitude in preparing for war. Mars and Uranus aspecting the North Node may lead to a questioning of spiritual values in regard to war. Mars and Uranus aspecting Mercury might inspire a lot of comical war stories. Mars and Uranus aspecting (out of sign) Neptune might bring about comedy films crazier than “Canadian Bacon.”
The creative side of the “phony war” may be emphasized by a Grand Trine in Air with Jupiter, the Moon, and Pallas, asteroid of Wisdom. People may find it is best to keep talking than in acting. However, there may be some nefarious influences at work. Jupiter is in the Eighth House of debts and other people’s money. Jupiter is squaring Ceres, Venus, and Saturn in the Fifth House. There may be economic problems as a result of the trade war. If the war is all talk, there is nothing to be gained from it. Financial losses may take the humor out of things as a recession takes place.
Vesta in Scorpio may show a darker side to the war issues. Vesta is trine Ceres, Venus, and Saturn, and the matter of family values may add to a pacifist element in the war, with people showing how families could be destroyed if there was a real war. However, Vesta is squaring Pallas, and too many pacifist messages could have a blowback. Other nations might think the United States is too cowardly to fight a real war if they are just having a make-believe war against Canada. America’s reputation could be harmed in the long run, as if “America First” had not done enough harm already. The country might seem more concerned about financial matters rather than working to end a real war as in the Ukraine. In the end, real warriors in the Ukraine may get more respect than the American military; People may end up shunning the entertainment war provided by Mars in Cancer.
